Mountain Biking in the Wipptal — Trails, Location and Conditions
The Wipptal between Innsbruck and the Brenner is one of Tyrol’s underrated riding areas — 17 signposted routes for all difficulty levels, three singletrails in the quiet side valleys of Obernberg, Navis and Schmirn, plus the Steinach am Brenner bike park. If you want genuine Tyrolean riding without the crowds of the main resorts, this is the place.
Riding Areas at a Glance
- Wipptal route network: 17 routes for all difficulty levels, plus 2 singletrails — the main axis between Innsbruck and the Brenner
- Side valleys: Obernbergtal, Navistal, Schmirn, Valsertal and Gschnitztal — three technical singletrails in Obernberg, Navis and Schmirn
- Steinach am Brenner bike park: warm-up zone, slopestyle area and 2 downhill tracks (each approx. 3 km, easy and medium)
- Long-distance: the Wipptal is part of the Transalp Munich-Venezia and the MTB Transalp route over the Tuxer Joch

- E-bike leisure riders: the five side valleys are a paradise for relaxed e-bike tours with mountain-hut stops — moderate climbs, very little traffic and classic Tyrolean huts as day-trip destinations
- Beginners and families: the blue routes in the Wipptal and the Steinach bike park are ideal for your first days in the bike park and relaxed family tours
