Mountain Biking at the Wilder Kaiser — Trails, Location and Conditions
The Wilder Kaiser region covers Soll, Scheffau, Ellmau and Going — framed by the Kitzbuhel Alps to the south and the Wilder Kaiser rock face to the north. Over 350 km of cycling and MTB routes, plus a well-kept network of huts and alpine pastures, make the region one of the most versatile bike areas in Tyrol’s lowlands. Most lifts carry mountain bikes free of charge.
Areas at a Glance
- Route network: 350+ km of cycling and MTB routes through Soll, Scheffau, Ellmau and Going — all trails colour-coded (blue/red/black)
- Tour highlights: Schleierwasserfall below the Maukspitze (Going), Walleralm via Hintersteiner See (Scheffau)
- Lift infrastructure: most mountain railways carry bikes free of charge to the tour starting points
- Guided Tours: weekly guided tours at various difficulty levels from May to October, usually starting in Going
What Suits You?
- Trail and flow fans: the black single trails and up-and-down tours along the Kitzbuhel Alps offer classic Tyrolean bike character with plenty of vertical metres in reserve
- E-bike leisure riders: the region is an e-bike paradise — well-kept forest roads, many staffed alpine pastures such as Walleralm and the Schleierwasserfall tour as day destinations, plus the Hintersteiner See for a swimming break
- Beginners and families: the blue routes from the valley floor and the family-friendly lift ascents make the Wilder Kaiser one of the most relaxed bike regions in the lowlands
With Kitzbuhel, Brixental and Kufstein right nearby, we have plenty of fallback options — when the weather closes in at the Wilder Kaiser, the neighbouring valleys are 15–30 minutes away.
