Mountain Biking in the Pitztal — Trails, Location and Conditions
The Pitztal is one of Tyrol’s quietest biking areas — narrow, high-alpine and with the feeling of having a valley to yourself rather than queuing at a crowded mountain lift. Around 95 km of signposted MTB routes in the valley, the official Hochzeiger Bike Trails at the lift and a well-kept network of huts and alpine pastures. If you are looking for long tours with views and well-maintained singletrails instead of bikepark crowds, this is the place for you.
Areas at a glance
- Hochzeiger Bike Trails: two officially signposted blue trails — Family Trail (7 km, 2,000 → 1,450 m) and Steinbock Trail (4.5 km, 2,500 → 2,000 m). Family Trail season 04 Jun–18 Oct 2026, Steinbock 13 Jun–13 Sep 2026. Reachable via the Hochzeigerbahn and the Hochzeiger 2.5 chairlift
- Trail network in the valley: 95 km of signposted MTB routes, from the flat valley path to the high-alpine tour towards the Rifflsee and the Pitztal Glacier
What suits you?
- Trail and flow fans: the Steinbock Trail above 2,000 m offers an alpine backdrop with a blue flow-trail character — great for line training without bikepark crowds
- E-bike leisure riders: the Pitztal is especially well suited to long e-bike tours to working alpine huts — the quieter side valleys and the well-kept forest-road network make relaxed leisure tours with a hut stop easy to ride
- Beginners and families: the Hochzeiger Family Trail can be ridden from the gondola mid-station all the way down to the valley and is one of the longest blue trails in this region
If the weather in the Pitztal does not cooperate, Imst, the Ötztal and the upper Inn Valley are 20–40 minutes away — we switch to a suitable alternative at short notice.
