Frequently asked questions.

Why should I take an MTB skills course?
  1. Better riding skills: a skills course gives you the chance to improve your mountain bike technique and become more efficient. You’ll learn new techniques and drills that help you clear obstacles, take corners better, perform jumps safely and generally have more control over your bike.
  2. More confidence: taking a skills course boosts your confidence on the mountain bike. By learning new skills and applying them in a controlled environment, you gain more trust in your own abilities and are better equipped to tackle harder trails and challenges.
  3. Safety: a skills course helps improve your safety awareness when mountain biking. You learn to better assess potentially dangerous situations and respond appropriately. By learning the right techniques you minimise the risk of crashes and injuries.
  4. Fun and enjoyment: as you improve your skills, you’ll have more fun and enjoyment on the mountain bike. You’ll be able to ride more demanding trails and take on new challenges. The skills course lets you develop your abilities and unlock the full potential of mountain biking.
  5. Connecting with like-minded riders: on a skills course you meet other mountain bike enthusiasts who are also keen to improve their riding. Sharing experiences, tips and tricks can be inspiring and motivating. A community forms where everyone learns from and supports one another.
  6. Challenge and personal growth: taking a skills course lets you face new challenges and grow beyond your previous limits. You become not only technically better but also mentally stronger, by continually developing and expanding your comfort zone.
What do I need for the skills / bike technique course?
  1. Mountain bike: you need a suitable mountain bike that meets the course requirements. It must be in good condition and have the features relevant to the course. For Basic & Safety Skills or Trail Skills training a hardtail is enough; from Master Skills onwards we recommend at least an all-mountain bike.
  2. Protective gear: safety comes first. A bike helmet is mandatory and must meet current safety standards. In addition, knee pads, elbow pads and gloves can be useful to protect you from injury.
  3. Suitable clothing: wear comfortable sportswear that gives you enough freedom of movement. Choose breathable materials that protect you from the weather and wick away moisture. Depending on conditions it can also be wise to bring extra layers or a rain jacket.
  4. Cycling shoes: it’s advisable to wear cycling shoes with a stiff, flat sole. These provide better power transfer to the pedals and improve your grip on the bike.
  5. Water bottle or hydration pack: it’s important to carry enough fluids during the course. A bottle or hydration pack lets you stay hydrated during the drills and training. We recommend a bottle!
  6. Snacks and food: depending on the length of the course, bring enough snacks and food to cover your energy needs. Energy bars, fruit or nuts are good options for in-between.
  7. Tools and spares: it’s always sensible to carry some basic tools and spares for minor repairs on the bike. A multitool, spare tube, a pump and a chain breaker can be useful. If something breaks, we bring tools and spare parts too.
  8. Personal first-aid kit: it’s advisable to carry a small first-aid kit so you can give first aid for minor injuries or falls. Plasters, disinfectant and bandages are useful. We also bring a large first-aid kit.
Does an MTB skills course make sense for advanced riders?

Yes, an MTB skills course for advanced riders makes sense. Even experienced mountain bikers can benefit from developing their technique further.

An advanced skills course offers the chance to further improve and refine specific abilities and techniques. Topics can include cornering, jumping, steep descents, clearing obstacles, climbs and descents on different surfaces and difficulty levels. Our coaches have the expertise and are qualified to help optimise existing skills and learn new techniques.

Such a course can also help build safety and confidence on the bike. Advanced riders can test their limits without exposing themselves to unnecessary risk. Through guidance and individual feedback, the coach can help spot and correct possible mistakes or inefficient techniques.

How often should I take an e-bike or bike skills course?

How often you should take an e-bike or bike skills course depends on several factors, such as your current skill level, your goals and your personal progress. There are, however, some guidelines that can help you decide how often to take a skills course:

  1. First visit: if you’ve never taken a skills course or have only just started mountain biking or e-biking, it’s advisable to complete at least one basic skills course. This helps you learn the fundamental techniques and skills needed for safe and effective riding.
  2. Advanced riders: if you already have solid fundamentals and are at an advanced level, it can make sense to take skills courses regularly to develop and refine your abilities. Advanced courses offer more specific techniques and challenges that can help improve your riding.
  3. Specific goals or weak points: if you have particular goals, such as mastering a certain technique or clearing difficult obstacles, a skills course focused on those aspects will help. In our private courses / coaching we can tailor everything to you. That way you can work specifically on your weak points and reach your goals faster.
  4. Periodic refreshers: it’s also advisable to take skills courses regularly to refresh and keep improving your abilities. This can help correct bad habits and learn new techniques that have developed over time.

We recommend taking a course or workshop once a year.

Is a skills course / mountain bike training / technique workshop worth it?

An MTB skills course or e-bike skills course can definitely be worth it. Here are a few reasons why an e-bike course or MTB course can pay off:

  1. Better riding skills: a skills course lets you improve your mountain bike technique. You learn new techniques, drills and tips from qualified coaches that help you clear obstacles safely, take corners more efficiently, master jumps and generally have more control over your bike. This can lead to a better riding experience and more fun on the trail.
  2. Safety: taking a skills course can increase your safety when mountain biking. You learn to better assess hazardous situations and respond appropriately. By learning the right techniques you minimise the risk of crashes and injuries. A safe riding style helps you feel more comfortable on the bike and more confident in your abilities.
  3. Confidence: a skills course can strengthen your confidence on the mountain bike. By learning new skills and applying them in a controlled environment, you gain more trust in your own abilities. You’re better equipped to tackle harder trails and challenges. The increased confidence has a positive effect on your riding experience and lets you keep developing.
  4. Connecting with like-minded riders: on a skills course you meet other mountain bike enthusiasts who are also keen to improve their riding. Sharing experiences, tips and tricks can be inspiring and motivating. A community forms where everyone learns from and supports one another.
  5. Adapting to new technology: if you ride an e-bike or plan to switch to one, a skills course specifically for e-bikes can be very useful. You learn to handle the specific characteristics and power of an e-bike and get information on the optimal use of the different support levels and functions.

An MTB skills course is a valuable investment to improve your technique, increase your safety, strengthen your confidence and boost your enjoyment of mountain biking. You can benefit from the expertise of qualified coaches and take your riding experience to a new level.

How do I take part?

Our courses are hands-on and take place on the trail or in the practice area.
If you can’t find a suitable option, just drop us a message and we’ll be happy to take care of your request.

Can I take part in the e-bike or MTB skills course with clipless pedals?

Yes, you can take part in a skills course with clipless pedals. In fact it’s a good idea to ride with the pedals you normally use, so you have a realistic feel and can apply the techniques to your preferred pedal type.

Clipless pedals can offer many advantages in mountain biking, such as improved power transfer and stability. However, they also take some practice and getting used to, since you need to be able to release your feet quickly when you’re in a critical situation or ready to step off.

During a skills course you’ll do various drills involving braking, balance, cornering, clearing obstacles and other techniques. Your coach will show you how to apply these techniques safely with your clipless pedals. It’s advisable to practise a little at home or in a safe place before the course, to get used to clipping in and out and to build confidence in releasing the pedals.

It’s worth noting that in some situations it can make sense to use flat pedals, especially if you have no experience with clipless pedals yet or you’re in technically demanding terrain where stepping off quickly might be needed. Your coach can give recommendations on which pedals are best suited to the course.

Overall, it’s both possible and common to take part in a skills course with clipless pedals, as long as you’re comfortable with them and able to release your feet safely and quickly when needed.

Clean technique is best learned with flat pedals!

Am I fit enough for a course or other offer?

Our skills offering puts a strong focus on practice. Depending on the location, we therefore use uphill assistance to fit in several descents.
Our e-MTB and MTB skills courses are designed for recreational riders.

For e-MTB and MTB tours we make a real effort to describe them in detail and give precise information. If anything is unclear, please ask us.

Can I take part in courses with an e-bike (e-MTB)?

Yes, all skills courses are also suitable for e-bike riders.
For e-bikers there are dedicated e-MTB skills courses. We therefore recommend booking one of those.

I’ve been riding for a long time — can I book an expert course straight away?

A clear yes-and-no!
You’re welcome to book an expert course, but you learn better with a good foundation and at a steady pace — and you get more out of it. In our experience, one level lower is usually the better choice.
If anything is unclear, we’re always here to help.

Does skills training take place in the rain too?

Since mountain biking is an outdoor sport, a little rain won’t stop us running the course.
As long as conditions aren’t too extreme and there’s no immediate danger to participants, our courses go ahead in the rain too.

In the event of severe-weather warnings known 24h before the date, we cancel the course and you get 100% of your money back. We’ll inform you about alternatives.

My gears/brakes aren’t working properly — can you look at it during the course?

No — our skills courses are there for all participants, to teach you as much as possible in that time, so we can’t repair your bike. Of course we’ll look at faults that come up during the course and help as best we can.

Can I rent an e-MTB or MTB for a course?

Yes, we can offer you top rental bikes through our partners.
Just let us know when booking and we’ll take care of the rest.
Protective gear and helmets are also available to rent.

Where is the course meeting point?

The meeting point is announced by email before the course.
On site you’ll easily recognise us by our bike school T-shirts.

Is there a minimum number of participants?

Yes — depending on the location and course, dates run from a minimum of 3 people.
The exact number is listed with each course.

Are there breaks during the course?

Yes, we take enough breaks — depending on the group’s focus we take more or fewer.
There are usually places to eat nearby.

Will I learn the right technique?

All our skills coaches are trained and certified guides or instructors. Mountain biking is a young sport, so the teaching consensus shifts from time to time. We teach you the techniques that, from our experience and conviction, are the best.

Do I need knee pads?

Yes — in our view knee pads are highly recommended! The knee is the most frequently injured body part when cycling.
Knee pads and a helmet should be part of your basic kit.

Am I covered by accident insurance through the course?

No, we don’t provide accident insurance.
You are responsible for your own insurance.
We always try to keep the risk as low as possible.
Through our partners you can take out cancellation and accident insurance.

What insurance do I need?

We recommend travel or cancellation insurance and a private accident insurance!
