Mountain Biking in Lienz & East Tyrol — Trails, Location and Conditions
East Tyrol, with its district capital Lienz, is a bike microcosm all of its own — cut off from the rest of Tyrol by the Lienz basin, shaped by the Lienz Dolomites to the south and the Hochstein to the north. With the Lienz Bike Park on the Hochstein and its Peter Sagan Trail, this is home to one of the most playful lift-served bike parks in the Alps.
Areas at a glance
- Lienz Bike Park on the Hochstein: around 11.6 km of trails — 1 blue, 2 red and 1 black single trail. Lift access via the Lienz cable cars
- Peter Sagan Trail: 4.8+ km, around 55 berms, plenty of airtime and gaps — the park classic for advanced riders
- Flow Family Trail: starts at around 1,000 m in the Moosalm area, lift-accessible, and suited to both beginners and easy-going riders
- World Cup Pumptrack: at the Hochstein valley station — warming up, practising and coordination training
- Gravity Card: Lienz Bike Park has been part of the network since 2022
What suits you?
- Trail and flow fans: the Peter Sagan Trail is one of the most playful lift-served runs in Austria — pump, gaps, step-ups, roots and rock sections for demanding skill-building
- E-bike leisure riders: the Lienz Dolomites and the Isel Valley offer classic East Tyrolean alpine-pasture tours — quieter than northern Tyrol, with a character all their own and plenty of mountain huts
- Beginners and families: the Flow Family Trail is lift-accessible and designed specifically for beginners and families — plus the World Cup Pumptrack for stress-free practice
East Tyrol stands on its own — when the weather closes in on the Hochstein, the region itself usually remains the best option, because the crossings to Salzburg (Felbertauern) or South Tyrol take time.
